DRV8912-Q1: If I have 18 motors, how many DRV8912-Q1 should I use?

Part Number: DRV8912-Q1

If the answer is more than two, like 3. How to control 3 DRV8912-Q1 by one SPI. Besides, does this motor drive pass ISO7637 standard?

  • Hi Josh,

"If I have 18 motors, how many DRV8912-Q1 should I use?". The answer to this depends on the current drive requirements and if you need to connect a few half-bridges in parallel to support higher current drive. Another restriction will be to not to exceed 6A for the entire device cumulative of all the channels.

The DRV89xx-Q1 supports daisy chain SPI to support multiple devices with one SPI port. See pages 60 to 63 of the datasheet, https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv8912-q1.pdf. For two or three devices they can also use one SPI for normal operation without daisy chain as well. In this connection they will need individual nSCS control pin from the MCU for each driver device.

The ISO7637 standard refers to system level EMC performance. Customers have used this driver family of devices and passed these tests in their application design. Customer must focus with their PCB layout, motor cable harness etc to pass this test. The driver implements an adjustable gate-drive current control to the MOSFETs of half-bridges is implemented to achieve the slew rate SR control. This will help customer in managing the required SR to mitigate EMC/EMI. See page 38 of the datasheet.
