DRV8350: Does it have STO (Safe Torque Off) features, or emergence shutdown

Hello team,

My customer asked how long it took the outputs to stop when they use Enable, DS mentions 1ms max. They want to use it for fast shutdown in case of an overcurrent.

I have the feeling that double buffering the 6 PWM inputs and so disabling PWM input signal to the DRV8350 inputs might be the faster way, to be sure the output are disabled.

Do you agree and please confirm your proposal. Customer is looking for the fastest HW disable way.

Any STO planned in future products?

Is there a reason the customer doesn't want to use the VDS overcurrent protection?

Hi Akshay,

As it turned out the customer has already a HSS to switch off the powerstage. In the norms he needs to have two precautions.

Limiting the power to the H-bridges and make sure the input are disable, meaning output is stable and agnostic for input in a fast way. In principle Enable does the function however is to slow. Also the customer came up with a better name, Nsleep this is a better description in my eyes too. Also share with marketing that having a true Enable pin save external components for the customer making our parts easier to design in thier system.
