Hello there,
We planned to use TI’s Stepper motor driver because we are having a few quires.
Thanks,
Sakthivel
Hello Sakthivel,
1. Thanks for sharing the motor details. These are low current, bipolar (2-phase) stepper motors. SMS6-F40 is about 150 mA full scale drive and SMSH8-F40 is about 240 mA. The constant voltage specifications are published for these two motors as a general practice. All modern stepper drivers use constant current drive. These steppers work fine with constant current drive. All our drivers with two H-bridges will be suitable for these motors. Drivers with STEP/DIR interface either GPIO or SPI will be easy to use with and support microstepping.
The DRV8411 will work if your supply voltage is ≤ 11 V. As well as this is not a STEP/DIR interface. You have to generate the drive sequence with an external MCU and not a good fit if you need microstepping. These two motors have dielectric strength up to 100 V for insulation. The full scale current IFS drive is important to adhere to. IFS can be set to the desired value using the current regulation feature of the driver. So it would be totally fine using for example a 24V supply and set IFS to 240 mA for the SMSH8-F40 motor.
2. Our stepper driver portfolio is presented in the TI website, https://www.ti.com/motor-drivers/stepper-driver/overview.html. You can filter the desired drivers based on Voltage, Current, microstepping etc. in this site. You can also peruse our latest releases for integrated stepper drivers.
3. Our stepper drivers are mostly GPIO controlled or SPI based registers controlled. SPI drivers examples are DRV8889-Q1, DRV8434S, DRV8452S, DRV8461, DRV8462.
We can provide additional guidance in driver selections if we know the following.
1. What type of application? Does it require hold torque when stopped?
2. Is microstepping required?
3. What is the step rate or RPM of the stepper in the application?
4. Dual stepper in a single IC required?
5. Do you need stall detection?
6. Any other specific diagnostics?
7. Supply voltage planned?
