DRV8873-Q1: referance design for Hardware device mode and continuous current rating

We are planning to use DRV8873HPWPRQ1 in our automotive project. The control i/o's would be interfaced to STM320B! microcontroller.(operated at 3.3V) We want a motor driver with a continuous current of 8A and peak current rating of 10A. In the datasheet of DRV8873-Q1 peak current rating is specified as 10A. Please let us know the continuous current rating of this IC.

Also please let us know if there are any reference designs for this IC. Currently the below is our implementation in schematic for Hardware device mode. Please let us know if the schematics is fine.

Hi Prema,

The continuous current that can be supported by the device depends on the total power dissipation in the device, the PCB design and Ta the ambient temperature of operation. More information on how to calculate the drive current vs. power dissipation and estimate die temperature can be found in Section 8.2.1.2 Drive Current and Power Dissipation, page-41 in the datasheet, https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/drv8873-q1.pdf. The calculated Tj for the rated current must not exceed the Thermal Shutdown threshold for the device to operate.
