Hi,

I purchased the DRV8262EVM but I was meaning to buy DRV8462EVM - am I able to replace the DRV8262 IC with the DRV8462 IC?

    Hi Phillip,

    Yes you can replace the IC with a DRV8462. Be sure to have the power pad area cleaned and all solder removed and the DRV8462 soldered with enough temperature to have proper thermal pad heat transfer. Else the maximum current that can be driven without over temperature shut down will be much lower.

    Other than that, the important things to pay attention are the DNP items. They are different for DRV8262 and DRV8462. This includes the board ID resistors and jumper settings. The DNP is published in the BOM and schematic can be used as a reference. The EVM User's Guide shows jumper short positions. 

    If ID resistors are incorrect the EVM will not be recognized by the GUI correctly. DNP resistors and jumper settings will affect functionality. If you address these it will work fine.
