DRV8844: How to realize OVP on the output?

Part Number: DRV8844

Hi team,

How to realize OVP on the output of DRV8844? It seems we do not integrated this kind of protection. Do we have external discrete solution on this?

  • Hi Zoe,

We don't have a specific integrated over voltage protection feature, however we do have multiple protection circuits for the DRV8844.

While the voltage isn't monitored internally, we do monitor the current (OCP) to protect the device in case of transient voltage spikes or inrush current.

The over current protection, OCP, is an integrated protection circuit that monitors the analog current limit of each FET. If the current exceeds a certain threshold, the gate drive is removed from the FET, turning OFF the outputs of the device. The driver will remain OFF until either a RESET is asserted or VM is power cycled. Overcurrent conditions on both high and low side devices; i.e., a short to ground, supply, or across the motor winding will all result in an overcurrent shutdown.

The device also offers Thermal Shutdown, TSD, and Undervoltage Lockout, UVLO.

    Best,

    David
