MCT8316A: sensorless trapezoidal control- Max speed

Part Number: MCT8316A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8316A

Hello Team,

We want to use below evaluation board for testing of high speed BLDC motor

1. MCT8316A

2.MCF8316A

As per MCT8316A datasheet it says it can support 3Khz electrical frequency, our motor maximum speed is 30,000 to 40,000 rpm at 24V

wanted to can above evaluation board able to support such a high speed

Regards,

Sayali

  • Hi Sayali,

Could you please tell me how many pole-pairs does your motor have? (motor pole-pairs = number of motor poles / 2)

You can use the equation below to convert Speed in RPM into Hz:

    Eric C.

  • Hello Eric
we have motor ranging from 1 to 4 pole pair and maximum speed is 60 to 70K rpm

    Sayali

  • Hi Sayali

The MCT8316A can support up to 3 kHz as mentioned in the datasheet.

The MCF8316A can support up to 1.5kHz, due to more complex algorithm and computation needed for FOC

Using the equation I posted above,

    • A 4 pole-pair motor at 70K rpm = 4 * 70000 / 60 = 4666.67 kHz electrical frequency, and wouldn't be able to be supported by either device.
    • A 3 pole-pair motor at 60K rpm = 3 * 60000 / 60 = 3000 kHz electrical frequency and can be supported by MCT8316A, but NOT by MCF8316A
    • A 2 pole-pair motor at 40K rpm = 2 * 40000 / 60 = 1333.33 kHz electrical frequency and can be supported by both MCT8316A and MCF8316A

    Regards,
    Eric C.
