MCF8316A: EVM bring up

Part Number: MCF8316A

Hi team,

My customer BYD following the hardware set up from EVM user guide, but they still didn't get output to drive motor and no fault occurred. Besides hardware set up, do we need software configuration for MCF8316A EVM? Thanks!

  • Hi Jiawei,

    1. Can the customer measure the voltage at the DVDD pin to see if it is close to 1.5V?
    2. Does the EVM connect to Motor Studio? If the EVM connects to the GUI the icons circled in blue in the image below should be green.
    3. If the EVM connects to the GUI, does the Algorithm state change when the customer attempts to spin the motor?
    4. What method is the customer using to send the speed command (I2C, PWM, etc.) and what is the value of SPEED_MODE and OVERRIDE?

    Regards,

    Joshua

  • Hello Joshua,

Thanks for your support. I changed GUI from MCF8316A_GUI 1.1.9 to motorstudio-0.1.12 and motor spins. But I found the output A, B, C are square wave, could you kindly tell me how to sine wave? Thanks!

  • Hi Jiawei,

Glad you were able to get the motor to spin!

Could you provide a capture of the phase current? Is the phase current in a square wave shape or is the phase voltage in a square wave shape?

    Regards,

    Joshua
