MCT8316Z: Any idea how to disable or modify nsleep bevahiour. Stand alone board without logic level.

Part Number: MCT8316Z

Hi,

I 'd like to build a compact standalone BLDC driver with the MCT8316Z having only Vm 24V as power input. Integrated buck regulator is excellent but it won't start if nsleep is low.

How can I bypass it and also clear manually nfault without a controller ? Any smarter idea than a voltage divider on VM?

Thanks

David

  • Hi David,

If you don't need the sleep mode function and need the MCT8316Z to power-up into standby state, then you can simply tie the nSLEEP pin to AVDD 3.3V (or use a pull-up resistor to AVDD if you intend to manually drive nSLEEP low for tRST 20~40us to reset fault).

Are you looking at using the SPI variant or Hardware variant of the MCT8316Z?

If using the SPI variant, you could perhaps configure the fault modes to automatic retry mode (such as OCP_MODE = 1b, MTR_LOCK_MODE = 1b). Motor Lock fault retry time can also be configured through MTR_LOCK_RETRY. Refer to Table 8-8 for fault action and responses on SPI variant.
