DRV8872-Q1: Motor driver outputs are getting shutdown

Part Number: DRV8872-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8243-Q1

Hi

We are using DRV8872-Q1 in our design. We are using it to control a car mirror tilt horizontal and vertical movements.

When we provide inputs from STM microcontroller to IN pins, the output current peaks to 6A as a sharp spike and no motor movements observed.

However when we give 3.3V input to IN1 pin using power supply,we are able to see the motor movements.

Please let us know under what condition the motor outputs are shutdown in this scenario.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

This could be over current protection or thermal shut down. over current protection could happen around 4.5A.

If you need 6A driving, I suggest to move to DRV8243-Q1 which is newer gen and can handle higher current than DRV8872Q1.

    regards
