DRV8312: Thermal pad connection

Part Number: DRV8312

Tool/software:

The datasheet is not particularly clear if the thermal pad on the 8312 device is electrically isolated or not. It says to connect to ‘large ground plate’. Can this be any ground plane/ large copper plane or should it be the same ground plane as the Half Bridge power?

Thanks.

  • Hi Chris,

In most of our gate drivers the thermal pad is isolated from the ground of the driver and is simply a pad that provides heat dissipation from the device. This can be any ground plane, however it is slightly preferable to connect to a lower noise ground to reduce potential capacitive coupling on a noisier ground.
