DRV8662 Footprint Size and Gain Steps

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8662EVM, DRV8662

Posted on behalf of Asher:

  1. Lower voltage and Lower PCB foot print - I purchased the DRV8662EVM, and look for ways of achieving Lower PCB foot print (at the expense of Lower voltage).
    1. Can the DRV8662 be operated without the L1, C1 to achieve lower foot print ?
    2. Is there a way for getting smaller gain steps (and not just the present 4 steps gain control).

No.  Boost Inductor and Boost capacitor are required for Boost (DC-DC Converter) to operate.  It is possible to use a smaller inductor/capacitor if the current requirement is lower (for inductor) and voltage requirement is lower (for capacitor).

An external input resistive divider can scale the gain down to any level you like.  The 4 gain step sizes will of course remain the same.
