DRV8873-Q1: High-side driver for resistive load is interfering with GND.

Part Number: DRV8873-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello,

In my application, I'm using DRV8873H to drive a resistive load with high-side configuration: output is connected to resistive load to GND.

  • My resistive load is about 6Ohm
  • Driving signal: 200Hz with Duty Cycle controlled.

I also have 3 more I2C devices on the board.

When the load is not being driven, the I can recognize the IC and communicate to it.

However, when the load is being driven, the bigger the duty cycle, the more I cannot talk to the periphrals.

For example, at 40%, I can only talk to 2 devices, at 100%, I cannot recognize any devices anymore.

Is there a chance that the driver is interfering with my GND potential?

If yes, what can I do to improve the situation? Should I put an Inductor before my load, or should I increase the resistance of the load itself?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best.

  • Hello,

From the schematic it appears you are using the "hardware" version of the device and not the "SPI" version. This device does not support I2C communication. How are you trying to communicate with it? Are you not able to read the nFAULT or IPROPIx signals?

    Best,

    David
