DRV8243-Q1: ON-TIME requirement

Part Number: DRV8243-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello, Experts,

Would there be an issue if we drive the device with ON TIME: 10us and OFF TIME: 1ms~10us at PWM Frequency = 1kHz? The instant output current Iout is ~5.5A for 1us duration.

Our customer is worried about whether DRV8243 has a ON-time requirement since it could be 20us if PWM frequency = 25kHz and 50% Duty. In the past, they experienced an avalanche breakdown in the past with other manufacturer's FET when they set the ON TIME too short.

Best Regards,
Masaru

  • Hello Oinaga-san,

The DRV8243-Q1 supports 0 (DC) to 25 kHz PWM input with no limitation for duty cycle on the input side. For example 10 us ON with 1 ms OFF time translates to ~ 1 % duty cycle. However output current may not fully driven during this short 10 us depending on the SR setting. Slower SR may not let the output reach the full-scale current. DRV8243-Q1 does not have a minimum ON time requirement for MOSFET SOA. No concerns here.
