DRV10983: DRV10983: DRV10983 repeatly spin for a while then stop

I am sure you may have referred to Tuning guide ? If not please refer to the link and follow each step.

We can suspect following reasons why your motor not running in closed loop

1. Hand off speed - If your motor is not able to generate good BEMF at the speed then we have to increase the handoff speed

2. Open Loop acceleration - You are able to verify the acceleration in open loop and it is working

3. Lead time setting  - This setting is important which cause instability if not configured properly, 

The recommendation is to set speed command of 300/511. Monitor the phase current and slowly adjust until phase current reduces for the same speed. 

Even for tuning Kt you can first test at speed command of 300 by enabling closed loop.

Can you send me motor data sheet? Can I find Resistance, Kt details in the motor data sheet?

I looked at the tunning file and the motor data sheet.

1. Resistance value programmed in your existing file is 251mhm Ohm which is phase to center tap. But the data sheet says 250mphm line to line, we need to divide it by 2 and program

2. Kt should be programmed in mV/Hz  and program properly as mentioned in the tuning guide (Refer to tuning guide ti.com/lit/ug/slou395d/slou395d.pdf ) section 4.8. From the motor data sheet it is 3.75 Vrms / krpm, convert it to mV/Hz equivalent and program the value, it is approximate 23mV/hz .

3. To measure Kt we actually need to spin the rotor by external method, measure phase to phase voltage generated (section 2.3 for kt measurement technique and section 4.6 for spinning in open loop). If possible, to spin in open loop, spin it to good speed and stop driving. While motor is coasting measure the kt.

4. After setting these value work on Lead time setting once again.

Thank you for your response. Can you tell me, how you convert Vrms/krpm to mV/Hz? I couldn't obtain the same result as you.

Even when I obtain the value by manually spinning the motor I see the value 51.3 mV/Hz that was mentioned in the link before:

Can the DRV10983 even start this motor according to its datasheet? The goal is an initial startup at low speed, and it is not intended to operate under maximum load.

Hi Diba,

I looked into the data sheet of the motor, we have seen this before. The parameters are withing the DRV10983 recommended application range

Did you try testing it?

Also, have you looked into the MCF8316, MCF8315 products which are sensorless FOC based controllers?
