DRV8889-Q1EVM: Steps to stop

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1EVM

Tool/software:

I am using EVM GUI to test DRV8889. I have some questions.

From my understanding, Number of steps is the total steps the motor will operate.

1. But how can I understand Steps to stop? And what is the recommended value?

2. Do you have any recommendation for ratio of stating speed & stopping speed/target speed?

Eg. Target speed is 10000PPS, what is recommend starting speed and stopping speed?

Is there any limitation? it seems I can not configurate starting/stop very low as 1.

  • Hey Fabio,

The steps to stop allows the motor to reciprocate per the User Guide:  https://www.ti.com/lit/ml/slvubm4a/slvubm4a.pdf#page=5

Starting speed should be whatever speed is needed for your motor to start spinning.  If you try to start a full speed it often won't spin, but if you accelerate up to a given speed it will.  I often start at 1/10 of the target speed personally, but it just depends on your motor.

Note that the "Number of Steps" and "Steps to Stop" should be treated as separate to the top 4 boxes

    Best,

    Jacob
