DRV8316C-Q1: Isolated power supply

Part Number: DRV8316C-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8316C

Tool/software:

Hello

Is there anything to consider regarding running the controller from an isolated power supply?

That is, interfacing DRV8316C with a control device running off a galvanically-isolated power supply with digital isolation on all I/O (PWM / Current sense etc).

Thanks

  • Hi Philip,

Thank you for posting to our forum!

Please allow me to look into this isolation question and follow-up up shortly this week.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Philip,

I apologize for the delay in this response.

If this inquiry is still open, please find my response below:

There should be no issue regarding this isolation if the connections are I/O low voltage. If interfacing with the powerstage or supply GNDs (higher-voltage GND) then it may be beneficial to have a logic/digital GND plane and a higher voltage/system GND plane to ensure high and low voltages on either system (driver and MCU) are kept reasonably isolated.

Thank you again for your patience and Best Regards,

    -Joshua
