DRV8718-Q1: SDO

Part Number: DRV8718-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8703-Q1,

Tool/software:

Hi team,

According the EVM design, the SDO pin of DRV8718-Q1 doesn't need a pull-up resistor, whereas for DRV8703-Q1, the SDO is pulled up to the 3.3V by a resistor.

If the customer with use one SPI for both DRV8718-Q1 and DRV8703-Q1, do they need to add the pull up resistor? How much resistance value do you recommend?

Thanks,

Regards,

Ivy

  • Hi Ivy,

Please review the pin descriptions of the datasheets of both these devices. The DRV8718-Q1 SDO pin is a push-pull output whereas the DRV8703-Q1 SDO pin is an open-drain output. Open-drain output requires an external pull-up resistor, else it will not work. Even if an application has both devices on the same SPI bus with common SDO connection a pull-up is required for the SDO connected to the DRV8703-Q1. Typical value for this pull-up would be 2.2kΩ. For SCLK < 1 MHz a 3.3kΩ or 4.7kΩ may work. For faster SCLK > 2 MHz values < 2.2kΩ may be required.
