DRV7308EVM: DRV7308EVM

Part Number: DRV7308EVM

Tool/software:

Hello,

When controlling a sinusoidal permanent magnet synchronous machine, with the DRV7308EVM, does the control remain fully functional, in closed-loop FOC and/or open-loop V/Hz, modes, when the machine operation transitions from motoring (i.e. load driving) to regenerating (i.e. load braking), assuming the DC buss voltage is regulated constant, within operational range, by a bi-directional power-flow converter?

  • Hi Soroush,

Thank you for using our forum!

Can you please clarify what you mean exactly by "remain fully functional" regarding this application?

I'm glad to help look into and answer this topic as soon as I can.

    Thank you and Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • Hello Joshua, can the control smoothly transition from inverting...i.e. the machine is motoring and active power is flowing from the DC to AC side of the converter.....through idle, i.e ~zero active power flow.....to rectifying, i.e the machine is generating and active power is flowing from the AC to DC side of the converter? ( and transition back from generating back through idle to motoring) Importantly, we need the drive to be operating in torque control mode (not speed control mode) during these transitions. The speed is controlled by an independent, mechanically coupled, machine. That means we need to have access directly to the torque command variable, that is normally delivered by the speed controller when in speed control mode. Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Soroush, thank you for the clarification.

I think I better understand the question now, and will discuss this a bit further with my team.

Please expect a response early next week.

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua

  • Hi Soroush,

From my understanding this capability should be possible with the driver and proper control algorithm.

And as mentioned on your DRV7308EVM thread, the coding necessary for this type of application will be best received from the C2000 team for specifics regarding parameter tuning.

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua
