the stepping motor won't run

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8811

Hi,
I've connected a DRV8811 stepping driver with a stepping motor and no matter what I do, it won't run.
At the outputs of MotorA1, A2, B1 and B2 it haven't got any current.
I don't know were my mistake is.

  • Hi,

The image is hard to see. Can you send it to jquinones@ti.com? Here are a few things you can check:

-VCP has a voltage higher than VM by about 10V.

    -nSLEEP is HI

    -nRESET is HI

    -nENABLE is LO

    -VREF is higher than 0V

    - I think I see a cap in parallel with the motor winding. This can cause serious current spikes due to inrush current to charge the cap. It could go up to trigger OCP, which will undoubtedly stop current into the winding. If you want to use a cap to decrease EMI noise, you need to put a small resistor in series with it. Typical values are 10 ohms in series with 470pf. I would start by removing the caps to validate whether this is the problem or not.

Hope the info helps. Best regards,

  • Hi,

I'd built the whole board new and removed the caps at the Motor Output. But know the VCC pulls more than 3A and at the outputs it still haven't any voltage.

  • Hi,

Is it worth increasing the value of your ISENSE resistor from 100 ohms as any voltage over 2V could cause your chip to enter over current control?
