DRV8718S-Q1EVM: DRV8718/DRV8714 external circuit design

Part Number: DRV8718S-Q1EVM

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Our customers are designing external circuits for the DRV8718 and DRV8714 and are experiencing the following issues:
1, DRV8718 and DRV8714 are 56pin, in the design need to design 57 pin for reservation option?
2, Many of the resistance in the hardware circuit reference design diagram is 0 Ω, do our customer in the design also need to set to 0 Ω? if yes, Please tell the reasons; if not, please provide the appropriate resistance reference design.
3, Can 8718 and 8714 be designed in one library, can they share the same schematic design of external circuits and package?

Thank you very much!

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your questions.

    1. Pin 57 is thermal pad. It is named as Pin 57 due to schematic design tool's purpose. 56pin is number of pins of DRV.

    2. Evaluation module has 0ohm resisters a lot to keep flexibility. Customer do not need to follow everything.

Mostly customer put 0ohm or some (~100ohm) resisters between MCU and DRV for risk management viewpoint.

If customer has draft schematic, we can review it and provide feedback. Please post it on internal E2E.

    regards
