DRV8243-Q1: Current capability in specific use case

Part Number: DRV8243-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

1. May I know if it is possible that 2 outputs of this device work differently like the configuration below?

OUT1: DC output.

OUT2: PWM output.

2. If 1 is possible, which current capability related to table 7-1 in the datasheet should my customer refer to in 1's use case? with PWM or without PWM?

Best regards,

Shunsuke Yamamoto

  • Hi Yamamoto-san,

    1. May I know if it is possible that 2 outputs of this device work differently like the configuration below?

    OUT1: DC output.

    OUT2: PWM output.

Not really. When the motor is driven by PWM in one direction one output will always be a DC output and the other output will be a PWM output. For direction change these two outputs will be swapped with respect to DC and PWM outputs.

    2. If 1 is possible, which current capability related to table 7-1 in the datasheet should my customer refer to in 1's use case? with PWM or without PWM?

If you're driving using a variable duty cycle PWM as described in "1" you should consider "with PWM" data. Also note the data is for fPWM = 20 kHz. You can plugin your applications parameter in the calculator "SLVRBI3 — Full Bridge Driver Junction Temperature Estimator" that can be downloaded from the product webpage, https://www.ti.com/product/DRV8243-Q1
