DRV8462: Setting step speed over SPI

Hello,

Is there an option to set the driver step speed over SPI, other than continuously setting the STEP bit 7 in the CTRL2 register 0x05?

As best as I can tell, my only options for setting the speed are to send pulse to the STEP pin, or repeatedly write to register 0x05. I would be surprised if there were not a command or register to set the motor speed, nor one to advance a set number of steps, in a chip this advanced.

    The DRV8462 has only repeated write to register 0x05 for generating STEP input via SPI.

    This is possible only with devices that have a built-in motion control option. The DRV8462 does not have this. What is the end application, operating voltage and full-scale current required for the motor? What microstepping and STEP rate is desired for this application? Thank you.

    Thank you for clarifying.

    In our end application, one motor is on a lift mechanism and needs to run a set number of steps and home (we have a homing switch, but automatic stall detect is of interest to us). The other is running continuously.

    Operating voltage: 24V
    Full-Scale Current: 3.4 A (2.4 A_rms)
    Step rate: 800 steps/second and 2500 steps/second
    Microstepping: 1/32 and 1/16

    Hello Tyler,

    Thanks for the information. The DRV8462 is a good fit from a Full-Scale current point of view as well as comes with several features including stall detection and auto torque.
