DRV8231: 12V DC motor

Part Number: DRV8231

Tool/software:

Hi, I want to use DRV8231 for my dc motor application on a custom design board.

Motor is 12V DC

Max 1.5A to 2.5A

Do you please help me that the selected driver is the correct one? I want to discuss about the schematic design and DRV8231 interface details.

Thank you,

FS

  • Hello Fahad,

For 12 V DC brushed DC (BDC) motor if the motor in-rush current would never exceed 3.7 A during start up or motor stall and durations limited to the level that could be supported by the thermal limits of the DRV8231 and its PCBA designed as per TI guidelines, this is a good fit for this application.

This DRV8231 device drives the H-Bridge in PWM mode, meaning one input pin would be PWM input for speed control while the other is a fixed level for one direction and the other way around for the opposite direction of BDC driving. If you'd prefer Phase/Enable mode control with one PWM input and one direction input control we can look at other suitable device options in our portfolio.
