DRV8908-Q1: Active free-wheeling/Passive free-wheeling merits and demerits

Hello experts.

Customer would like to know merits/demerits of active free-wheeling and passive free-wheeling.

As far as I know, the merit for active free-wheeling is to reduce diode loss in recirculation. By active free-wheeling, the IC temperature decresease and can mitigate over temperature possibility.

Is there any merits/demerits/concerns for active and passive free-wheeling?

I do not know demerits of active free-wheelng but are there any concerns?

You are correct. As well as during the PWM drive off of the duty cycle the active free-wheeling will have slower decay and lower current ripple compared to diode decay. No concerns. Usually active freewheeling is preferred for proper BDC speed control with duty cycle change. Thank you.
