DRV8889-Q1: OCP do not shut down H-bridge

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

Customer did OCP test in BOUT1 pin, which is shorted to GND, and they found that BOUT1 is shut down (output current is 0), while the BOUT2 current waveform is:

Red is BOUT2 current, green is nFAULT pin. Customer set OCP_MODE=0 and they did not CLR_FLT. Theoretically when BOUT1 is shorted to GND, the H-bridge in BOUT will be disabled which is stated in datasheet. What is the problem here?

BR,

Bengi

  • Hi Bengi,

I verified in my bench setup with a DRV8889-Q1EVM. I can reproduce this waveform. That particular bridge itself is disabled as stated. This waveform is coming from the other active bridge, inductively coupled through the stepper motor winding body diodes conducting. This is not an issue. Customer must disable the outputs when OCP event is reported. Thank you.
