DRV8243-Q1: Regarding IPROPI pin

Part Number: DRV8243-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

May I know how to calculate the output current on IPROPI pin when high side current is 1A? My customer would like to know the relationship between the output current and high side current.

How do we determine the resistor of IPROPI pin?

Best regards,

Shunsuke Yamamoto

  • Hi Yamamoto-san,

May I know how to calculate the output current on IPROPI pin when high side current is 1A?

In the DRV824x-Q1 current sensing is done on HSFETs only. So IRPOPI always has the scaled down representation of the high side current.

My customer would like to know the relationship between the output current and high side current.

Please refer to the AIPROPI scaling factor specification in the datasheet as well as the IPROPI section of the datasheet - see below. So for a QFN packaged device with an HS current of 1 A, IPROPI = 1 / AIPROPI = 1/3070 = 325.73 μA.

How do we determine the resistor of IPROPI pin?

For 1 A this will be dependent on the ITRIP LVLx setting. Let's assume you want to have ITRIP LVL3 setting for 1.98V at 1 A. So RIPROPI = VIPROPI of ITRIP LVL3 / calculated value of IPROPI for 1A = 1.98 V / 325.73 μA = 6078.65 Ω or ~ 6.1 kΩ.
