Hi TI Team,

With known faults in the MCT8329EVM Board for the drift in the overcurrent protection value and non-compliant GUI, shouldn't TI take responsibility and change the evaluation board?

We ordered MCT8329EVM and were using it for evaluation for the BLDC motor controller, but even though we set the correct limits (from the datasheet), our two motors were burnt in testing.

There should be some mechanism through which TI can reach its customers and tell them about the possible known faults in there evaluation boards and also for replacements of such faulty boards.

Please allow me some time, to check internally on what actions we have taken to address the issues with the MCT8329A GUI and MCT8329EVM. I will also check on the current procedures in place within TI to reach out to customers about evaluation board errata.

Hi Prabhat,

With regards to the EVM, there are two changes that were made:

1. We have changed the default shunt resistor on the board. The old shunt resistor's package characteristics lead to the CSA current measurement not being accurate.

2. We removed a R56 which, when populated, could lead to voltage on the GCTRL pin rising above the Abs max rating under specific conditions.

These corrected all the issues we currently know about for the MCT8329EVM and MCF8329EVM.

For the GUI, the current GUI is functional and able to read and write with the MCT8329A. Can you describe the what you mean by the GUI being non-compliant?

For the current procedures, this is something our team will have to address with other teams within TI. We will work to create a good method to address this gap.

Hi Babji,

The MCT8329EVM and MCF8329EVM are currently using the Bourns CRE2512-FZ-R001E-3. The old resistor which was replaced was the CSS2725FT1L00.
