UCC256403: Inquiry about peripheral parts used for UCC256403

Part Number: UCC256403
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC25630-1EVM-291

Tool/software:

Thank you for your continued support. My name is Kurata.

I have the following question about the parts used in the peripheral circuit of UCC256403.

In the example circuit of the above device on the related evaluation board "UCC25630-1EVM-291",

the parts used are "C9, C11: PFR5151J630J11L4BULK (Kemet)".

Is there a reason why a film capacitor must be used for this circuit part?

Due to mounting space restrictions, I would like to use a multilayer ceramic capacitor, which has the same rating but is even smaller, but will using a ceramic capacitor cause any problems in maintaining performance?

  • Hello,

Your inquiry is under review and I will get back to you shortly.

  • Hello,

I cannot see why you could not use a multilayer ceramic capacitors for these capacitors.

Just make sure the capacitor has low ESR and candle the RMS current going through the capacitors.

It also needs to handle voltage rating of the design.

I do know that film capacitors are popular choice for X and Y capacitors for EMI filters due to there low ESR.

This might be why the design chose to use them in there design.
