I am currently working on the development of a Dual Inverter Air Conditioner and exploring suitable MCUs and driver ICs for both the outdoor unit (compressor control) and the indoor unit.

I am particularly interested in understanding the suitability and ease of use of Texas Instruments' MCUs and ICs for this application. Specifically, I would like to know which TI products are recommended for controlling the compressor's BLDC motor in the outdoor unit as well as managing the overall system for the indoor unit.

Could you please provide insights into:

  • The most suitable MCUs for motor control and system management in a dual inverter air conditioner, particularly for the BLDC motor in the compressor.
  • The recommended driver ICs for efficient motor control, especially considering Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and Six-Step control methods.
  • The most suitable MCU for the Indoor unit of the dual inverter air conditioner.
  • Any additional application notes or development tools that might ease the development process for this project.

It would be helpful to know specific part numbers and their advantages for air conditioner applications, as well as guidance on power efficiency, motor control precision, and reliability.

    You need to discuss with C2000/M0+ forum for microcontroller suggestions.

    In this forum we can explain about BLDC products which are closed cores.

    Examples

    1.MCF8316C - Integrated completed FOC based solution which can drive motor up to 50W rated powers, max rated voltage is 40V (abs Max)

    2.MCF8329A - External MOSFET solution (abs max 60V), suitable for motor power rated above 100W 

    3. MCT8316 - Trapezoidal based  FET integrated controller 

    4. MCT8329A - Trapezoidal based external FET based controller.

    The above listed are code free and user just need to have I2C  interface to communicate/ program the configurations to match to eh end equipment motors.
