DRV8718-Q1: question about DRVOFF/nFLT pin and IC_STAT1[FAULT] bit

Part Number: DRV8718-Q1

Tool/software:

hi expert

as we know, DRVOFF/nFLT pin is a multi-function pin and, by default, the pin functions as a global driver disable pin.

additionally, 8718 has IC_STAT1[FAULT] bit to Mirrors nFAULT pin.

So my question is that in default configuration(DRVOFF function) what is IC_STAT1[FAULT] bit function? does this pin shown DRVOFF/nFLT state?

  • Adding a question:

    how to understand FAULT bit "Mirrors nFAULT pin."

    if nFAULT pin is 1, then FAULT bit is 0;

    if nFAULT pin is 0,then FAULT bit is 1?

    am i right?

  • Hi Jay,

    The FAULT bit is set if there is a fault detected in the IC operation for example an UV or OV or POR. It does not reflect the status of the pin while in default DRVOFF function configuration.

    how to understand FAULT bit "Mirrors nFAULT pin."

    if nFAULT pin is 1, then FAULT bit is 0;

    if nFAULT pin is 0,then FAULT bit is 1?

    am i right?

    Yes you are correct. Thank you.

  • hi expert

    i have a further question about this words:

    It does not reflect the status of the pin while in default DRVOFF function configuration.

    so if DRVOFF/nFLT is used for DRVOFF function. and designer make DRVOFF low So IC_STAT1[FAULT] will be 1 during NO UV or OV or POR situation, right?

  • Hi Jay,

    so if DRVOFF/nFLT is used for DRVOFF function. and designer make DRVOFF low So IC_STAT1[FAULT] will be 1 during NO UV or OV or POR situation, right?

    The IC_STAT1 FAULT bit will be 0b, for no faults detected. When there is a fault detected the FAULT bit in IC_STAT1 will be 1b, indicating a fault is present.

    DRVOFF function for the pin is an independent input function to enable and disable the output bridges. It will not affect the IC_STAT1 FAULT bit status.
