DRV8353: Application issues.

Expert 1910 points
Part Number: DRV8353

Tool/software:

Hi Team,
Using DRV8353S on electric screwdriver products,
When the motor outputs 5N torque, SPI reads all registers of 8353 as 0xffff. At this time, the motor is working abnormally.
After being powered off for a period of time and then powered on again, the registers can be read normally, and 8353 can also work normally,
When the motor outputs 5N torque, the peak phase current is about 20A. Please help analyze the reason.
  • Hi Reed,

    Thank you for your question!

If the device is responding all 0xffff over SPI it is most likely in shutdown or stuck trying to reset due to a condition such as over temperature shutdown (OTSD).

This may be the likely case given that the driver recovers after a short time after driving a large load at 20A.

Can we check if the device is getting abnormally hot during this operation and moment of shutdown?

    Best Regards,

    -Joshua
