MCF8316AEVM: Motor not working/turning

Part Number: MCF8316AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8316A,

Tool/software:

Hello Team,

Posting on behalf of my customer:

We purchased the mcf8316a evaluation board from Digikey (October 2024). We change our motor status with i2c speed command to run the motor our motor is not running after doing all the configuration as per given in the user guide or tunning guide by TI.

LED status:

As I seen in a video of controller D6 blink when we give instructions with GUI, but my D6 never blink or glow. My motor doesn't increase the current parameters 0.02 A with increase in I2. Tried these likns below bot does not help.

Any other solution/guide you can share with us?

  • Hello Venkatadi,

Thank you, please see additional update from customer:

I had followed the instructions in the User's Guide MCF8316AEVM Evaluation Module ( Quick Start Guide, page no 6) and also from the User's Guide MCF8316A Tuning Guide. But with all this motor doesn't take any current to run, this same motor is running well on the other controller we have. As we had seen in some videos on the internet D6 and D7 (Used for UART or debugging) bink when providing some instructions from GUI. But I think our MCF8316AEVM board is not taking commands or has some problem in debugging (D6 and D7). Please guide about the possible fault.

    Regards,

    Renan

  • Hi Renan,

    Please verify two things

    1. DRVOFF switch is in OFF position - This will disconnect driver FETs and no current flows. Please follow the table printed on the EVM and also verify EVM user guide.

    2. POT (R16): This is Speed/Wake signal, when this is low device can be in Sleep mode or Idle mode. In order to run the motor turn this POT to other extreme end.

    Also, I have additional questions

1, Can you verify marking on the MCF8316 device, is it MCF8316A or MCF8316C? The new EVM will have MCF8316C even though board name is still MCF8316A. We prefer to have MCF8316C.

    2. You can use MOTOR STUDIO which is new GUI MOTORSTUDIO GUI for evaluation module (EVM) | TI.com

    Thanks and Best Regards
