DRV8307: Motor not starting up at -15C

Part Number: DRV8307

Tool/software:

I have a design that functions well at temperatures -10C or higher. However, I have test that consistently fails on multiple samples at -15C.

The motor simply does not start up, and the motor driver faults out. I can raise the temperature, power cycle, and the motor driver will operate again.

Can TI evaluate the schematic attached, for any risks at low temperature. Is this an issue that you have seen before?

For the test, the power supply is 13.5V.

  • Hi Robert,

Here we have to look at the different fault conditions and remove possible causes one by one. After power up, how much time it takes to report nFAULT? Can you monitor the gate voltages at -10 C. The peak gate current of the device is 30 mA, and the gat resistor seems lower. For 10V gate voltage, and to limit the peak current to 30 mA, the gate resistor needs to be more than 10V/ 30mA = 334 ohm.

    Regards,
