DRV8214EVM: How to set a PWM frequency other than the default?

Part Number: DRV8214EVM

Tool/software:

Hi,
I would like to use the DRV8214EVM to conduct experiments with very small motors (6 x 15 mm, diameter x length) to find out how good the current measurement/regulation is.
Since the motor inductance is very low, I would like to increase the PWM frequency to 100 kHz or 200 kHz to get a better current curve. There is a corresponding input field in the EVM GUI. However, if you try to enter a frequency other than the preset 25 kHz, the selection automatically jumps back to 25 kHz. How can I permanently set a higher value?

DRV821x_DRV823x-EVM-GUI/ver/2.0.2 (firmware version 0.29)

Thank you,
Matthias

  • Hi Matthias,

    Thanks for your question.

My team mate will look into this and get back you.

    Thanks,

  • Hey Matthias,

I believe the outputs have to be Disabled to change the PWM frequency.  Try toggling the device Awake but don't Enable outputs or start drive.  Can you try that?  If that doesn't work let me know and I'll try it out on an EVM myself, it could be a bug in the GUI.

Another way is to jump in your own PWM signal at the higher frequency.  You can do this from a function generator or your own microcontroller - just remove the black shunt on IN1 or IN2 and put in your own signal instead of your GUI.

    Best,

    Jacob
