DRV8462EVM: DRV8462DDVR

Part Number: DRV8462EVM

Tool/software:

Hello. team

I'm making several attempts to turn the stepping motor at high speed using DVR8462, but there's a lot of degreasing and noise, so I'm inquiring to make sure I'm putting the parameters right.

The motor specifications are as follows, and we have confirmed that if we use a commercial driver with this motor, it is stably turned to 1500 rpm with low noise.

The picture below is a module equipped with DRV8462DDVR that I'm using.

Below are the settings to turn it to 600rpm. Near 600rpm, there's severe tremors and noise.

I have referred to the manual below.

If I did SS_THR 510Hz instead of 16Hz, it went back quietly.

I'm wondering if there is anything I misunderstand the manual, and please help me to adjust which parameters and how I should adjust it in order to raise it stably to 1500 rpm.

  • Hello Seok Hyeon,

Thank you for posting your question.

The motor specifications are as follows, and we have confirmed that if we use a commercial driver with this motor, it is stably turned to 1500 rpm with low noise.

Based on the GUI settings it appears it appears that you are using 1/16 microstep mode with 32000 PPS for 600 RPM with automicrostepping set to 256 microsteps and also silent step decay mode enabled. Could you please compare the motor performance with silent step decay mode disabled?

Was the commercial driver with this motor also use the same 24 V motor supply voltage and same 1.2 A motor current settings? Could you please share one of the motor coil current waveforms using a current probe and oscilloscope for the following:

    1. Commercial driver with same settings, V and I, at 600 RPM.

    2. Commercial driver with same settings, V and I, at 1500 RPM.

    3. DRV8462 driver with same settings, V and I, at 600 RPM silent step disabled.

    4. DRV8462 driver with same settings, V and I, at 600 RPM silent step enabled.

    5. DRV8462 driver with same settings, V and I, at 1500 RPM silent step disabled.

    6. DRV8462 driver with same settings, V and I, at 1500 RPM silent step enabled.

This would help us debug the issue. Thank you.

    Regards, Murugavel
