DRV8350: Gate hold off resistor becomes smaller

Part Number: DRV8350

Tool/software:

I am currently using DRV8350RS, and when I operate it, the gate hold off resistor becomes smaller (120kΩ).
Please tell me the cause of the gate hold off resistor failure.

The attached file is the circuit diagram.

The circuit configuration is as follows.
MOSFET: PSMN5R6-100BS
VDRAIN=48V
VM=12V
Idriven=300mA

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello,

    I'm not sure I entirely understand what you mean by "gate hold off resistor"

    What points are you measuring? What value were you expecting? Has the device indicated any faults?

    Regards,

    Yara

  • Hello

    The gate hold off resistor refers to the resistance value of ROFF listed on the datasheet.

    The measurement point was the resistance value between the gate and source of the low-side FET.

    Normally, with the FET installed, we would expect it to be about 140kΩ, but with the faulty part, it was about 120kΩ.

    We will check if the device is faulty.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hello,

    The resistor is typically valued at 150k ohms, so 120k ohms is not unusual.
    Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find whether this value has a tolerance or not.

    An unusual value for that resistor would be something close to 0 ohms, that would indicate damage could’ve possibly occurred.

    regards

    Yara
