Hi John,

On the EVM MSP430 is used as bridge between GUI and the MCF8329A device.

MSP430 is interfaced with USB2UART device over UART, formats data required for MCF and transmits over I2C to MCF device.

The Firmware is available for downloading on TI.COM in the EVM page (https://dr-download.ti.com/software-development/firmware/MD-d3MfLGtGaz/0.0.9/MCxEVM_MSP430FR2355_MOTORSTRUDIO_Firmware.zip )

If you need to implement your own ESC and manage we can reuse the MSP430 code and modify it as per the need.

Please refer to the data sheet for I2C protocol format for writing and reading.

I know. That's why I'm asking about using a different board with the same chip to do the same thing.

Yes, this is what it means to act as a bridge in this case. The MSP-EXP430FR2355 does not have this USB2UART device, the EZ-FET debug probe would need to work as a usb to serial converter in its place. Will it do that?

I'm aware of this firmware. My question was specifically whether or not I could just use this firmware on the MSP-EXP430FR2355.

I have been implementing my own ESC, and wish to use motor studio and the MSP430 to control it during testing. What modifications are needed?

The entire point of using motor studio and an EVM as a bridge is to not have to spend time re-implementing I2C communications.

Hi John,

May be I will draw the topology and explain.

In short,  MCF is I2C based and required specific format of data and this format is explained in the data sheet.

GUI is only for high level and helps in tuning and debugging phase.  Your ESC need to implement the I2C protocol.

The GUI API is not separately available,  instead you can create something similar and lighter .
