DRV8329: Driver is failing repeatedly at higher duty cycle need a schematic check

Part Number: DRV8329

Tool/software:

My driver IC is failing after running for about 15 secs my Vbat voltage is 4.0 V and i am supplying PVDD from a charge pump, Once the IC is replaced it works again for some time and fails again after some time i have attached schematic for reference need help regarding the same.

  • Hey Samip,

DRV8329 has a minimum operating voltage of PVDD = 4.5V. I recommend increasing supply voltage and rechecking.

  • Hii akshay we are using different power supply for the drive and the driver ic, the ic itself is powered by a charge pump that outputs 5v 80ma current and the drive is powered by a Li-ion battery whose voltage varry from 4.2 to 3.7 v can it cause any trouble with the ic as the driver ic is getting regulated 5v supply from the charge pump ?

  • Hey Samip,

Please find the attached schematic with feedback. DRV8329 is not designed with split supply in mind as this can affect your VDS monitor.

Would you be able to capture the following in a single waveform. If nfault is tripping then trigger on nfault. (Zoomed in enough to see single VGS)

GVDD (at driver pin  to driver ground pin), PVDD(at driver pin  to driver ground pin), nFault, Vdrain, VGS differentially (at driver pins)

  • Dear Akshay,

Thank you for your response, I am not able to read comments in the schematic can you please send it again, and regarding the split supply you are correct that it would affect the vds monitor output but we have disabled it by connecting the VDSLVL pin to GVDD by a 10k resistor as shown in schematic, would that not solve the issue?

If you still feel that product is not suitable for split supply operation can you suggest any other driver which would solve the purpose of driving a motor from a 4V supply.

    Regards,

    Samip

  • Hey Samip.

Please find the pdf here8306.esc-TI Reviewed.pdf

To check the current situation could you send the waveforms with the measurments?
