DRV8329-Q1: How to make output current waveform clear

Part Number: DRV8329-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8329AEVM

Tool/software:

Dear TI experts,

My customer made their first PCB using DRV8329AQRGFRQ1.

Actually my customer posted another thread because they use M0G3507QRHBRQ1. Please see the thread below if you need ;

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp-low-power-microcontrollers-group/msp430/f/msp-low-power-microcontroller-forum/1451697/lp-mspm0g3507-the-function-definition-cannot-be-opened

And What I want to ask is to find a way removing the noise of output current waveform.

First, Here is the power up sequence. (Yellow-high side gate output, Blue-Low side gate output, Red-Motor output voltage / U phase only)

And here is the power down sequence. (Yellow-high side gate output, Blue-Low side gate output, Red-Motor output voltage / U phase only)

And Here is the waveform of output current of customer's own PCB ;

And Here is the waveform of output current of DRV8329AEVM.

(they used same firmware in M0G3507.)

Even the customer's PCB current waveform is good compared to EVM, but still they think that there are lots of noise in the output current waveform.

Can you advise me to reduce this noise by hardware modification?

Please check this issue, and let me know if you need mor information.

Best regards,

Chase

  • Hey Chase,

    Just to confirm my understanding, customer used same controller/FW on both their board and the EVM? The reason I am checking is because the EVM one looks more trapezoidal commutation.

    Also has the customer tried using smaller deadtime settings? I

    I would also like to understand what the ultimate goal of making the waveform more sinusoidal. Is is to reduce acoustical noise?

    Best,

    Akshay
