MCT8316Z: MCT8316Z Direction Control

Part Number: MCT8316Z

Tool/software:

Hi

Per earlier description the spec states that Dir control in SPI variant is available via Register control only. Direct hardware DIR control is only for Hardware variant. However in your spec page #79, the spec clearly shows a dedicated GPIO hardware to control Direction function. Please clarify this confusion. We need tp use SPI variant however our application requires hardware path to control Direction functions. Your application example with SPI variant shows seperate dedicated Dir control. We made our decision based on this information and totally confused now.

  • Hi

Thanks for posting question, we will respond by Monday.

  • Hi hope to hear soon. I also have an additional question on Buck Regulator with HW version. In our application we don't need the Buck regulator and would like to disable it. However specs does not clearly show if this is possible or hw to eliminate disable this function if HW version is used. However as I noted above, we need a dedicated dir bit . If dedicated dir bit is available with SPI version then we can disable Buck regulator by register setting also which is great solving both of our problems. However if dedicated dir bit is disabled in SPI version (I truly hope it is NOT) then we need to use HW version which in this case we need a solution to disable the Buck Regulator. Please comment on these critical architectural questions.

    Regards.

  • Hi TG,

I see data sheet has not updated for this.

    What is you power requirement?

You refer to the Functional block diagram in chapter 8.2 where DIR pin is not mentioned for SPI.

    Thanks and Best Regards

  • I assume from your answer the current data sheet has an ERROR and TI will correct this with the next update. The error is in the way SPI variant application schematic clearly showing one can use GPIO Dir control while using SPI. This is not correct since Dir pin is for SPI function. I think this is a limitation of design and architecture of this IC but i understand.

Can you please answer the second Question. If we use HW variant because we need direct direction control then how do we also disable Buck Regulator?

Also just saw that there is a 8315 chip that HW variant MCT8315ZT comes without internal Buck which solves my issue. So I can use this version and dont wory about buck fucntion but still have all the other features except 4 amp peak vs 8 amp peak which is well within my peak current requirements 24 volts and 1 Amp max. However there is note as you can see in snip form spec that states:

" MCT8315ZR and MCT8315ZT variants are preview only, in pre-production status"

Does this mean the MCT8315ZT is not a production level part currently?

    Please let me know ASAP.

    Regards

  • Hi TG,

For the second question hardware variant buck cannot be disabled.

I don't have RTM date clarity now, I will notify you.

Can you provide details about end equipment ?

I am sending message to you; I will notify when I get RTM details.

    Thanks and Best Regards
