MCF8315A: Current Sensing

Hey team,

Can you please help me better understand the current sensing that is integrated in to the MCF8315A?

Can we set a current limit / trip point with external resistors or does the current sense data have to be relayed back to an MCU?

How are ISENA ISENB ISENC used?

    Hi Cameron,

    Thanks for your question, the MCF8315A has multiple settings for having a current limit:

    ILIMIT sets the maximum phase current during motor run

    HW_LOCK_ILIMIT and LOCK_ILIMIT sets the protection level current i.e the phase current limit after which the driver shuts off.

    So I think if these are your goals, you would not need to use an external current limit.
