DRV8329-Q1: Adding Three-Shunt Current Sensing to DRV8329A for FOC Control

Part Number: DRV8329-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8328, DRV8329

Tool/software:

Hello,

I am using the DRV8329A inverter board, which supports single-shunt current sensing. However, for better precision in FOC (Field-Oriented Control), I would like to implement three-shunt current sensing.

Is it possible to modify the DRV8329A circuit to support three-shunt current sensing? If so, what modifications or external circuits would be required to achieve this? Additionally, how would the current feedback signals be interfaced with the controller for accurate current measurements?

Any guidance on hardware modifications and firmware changes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hey Sakshi,

In order to use drv8329 with 3 CSA you will have to implement them externally. At that point I recommend using DRV8328, same as drv8329 expect without CSA.

Please refer to the following E2E on how this connection can be made: https://e2e.ti.com/support/motor-drivers-group/motor-drivers/f/motor-drivers-forum/1107156/drv8328-question-regarding-the-current-sensing]

You will need to design your own board as the EVM was designed with Single CSA  in mind for both DRV8329 (internal CSA) and DRV8328 (external CSA).

    Best,

    Akshay
