DRV8329AEVM: DRV8329A EVM with F280025C – Tuning a Different PMSM Motor & Gate Driver Heating Issue

Part Number: DRV8329AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Tool/software:

I am using the DRV8329A EVM with the TMSF280025C LaunchPad and running the Universal Lab Project. I want to tune a different PMSM motor that is not included in the default configurations of the Universal Lab Project. What are the recommended steps to properly tune the motor parameters?

Additionally, I am facing a gate driver heating issue:

  • When the EVM is connected to the LaunchPad and powered on, the gate driver IC heats up significantly within a few seconds, even when no motor is connected.
  • However, when the EVM is powered on without being connected to the LaunchPad, the gate driver IC does not heat up.

What could be the possible reasons for this excessive heating when the EVM is connected to the LaunchPad? Are there any known hardware or software configurations that need to be checked to resolve this issue?

Any guidance or troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Sakshi,

Have you tried using LAUNCHXL-F280049C? That is the launchpad the EVM was designed to use.

I would probably compare the 49C to the 25C pinout of the headers to see if there are any differences, maybe there is something on the 25C pinout that is causing a short with the EVM?

    Regards,

    Yara
