MCF8316AEVM: Low speed range

Part Number: MCF8316AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCT8316A

Tool/software:

I am currently evaluating the MCF8316 with the eval board MCF8316AEVM.

I’m having a problem with the speed range I need to target.

I need to drive my motor from 35 to 3000 RPM.

But at low speed it is really complicated to spin the motor with the FOC algorithm.

Can you help me please configure this board to drive the motor at full speed range ?

My motor has 5 pairs poles and no sensor included.

8 Apk and 3Arms.

  • Hi Chris,

I am afraid we are running into the limitations of the FOC algorithm here, basically the BEMF at the lowest speed (in your case is around 3Hz) is very small for the device to estimate the position. Any chance you can use our trapezoidal control algorithm - the MCT8316A?

    Thanks and regards,
