In our current project, we are considering the DRV8316-Q1 as a potential driver for three independent half-bridges due to its suitability in terms of size, PWM frequency, output current, and input voltage requirements. We plan to use the 3-PWM control mode to operate the FETs as separate half-bridges.

Could you confirm whether there are any constraints or limitations that would prevent the DRV8316-Q1 from functioning in this manner? Are there any concerns we should be aware of regarding its operation in this configuration?

Hey Bach,

DRV8316 is an integrated MOSGFET driver, so you would attach the motor phases to the OUTx pins and not half bridges. Would this work for your application? What is the load/application?

The 3x logic would work as stated in the truth table below:

If you want to drive half bridges then you can you our gate drivers. For Example DRV8343-q1.
Please let us know the motor voltage and current requirement for your application. Also what is the timeline/SOP for this project?

Hi Askhay,

Sorry for the confusion. I am aware that the half-bridges are integrated. What I really want to ask is whether all those 3 half-bridges can be driven separately, and those OUT pins can then be used to control 3 different coils/solenoids instead of a 3-phase motor?

Hey Bach,

Thanks for clarifying. I dont see a concern with this sort of operation. However, I would like to check internally with my team on if overcurrent on one phase would hi-z all three phases or just the one affected.

I will aim to provide an update by Tuesday.

Hey Bach,

The OCP in one phase would hiz all three phases. So you can do independent drive but would need to disable protection.
