BOOST-DRV8711: Assistance Required for Stepper Driver Configuration & GUI Application

Part Number: BOOST-DRV8711
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8711,

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

We are working with the DRV8711 stepper driver and the PR57HS112-4204-01-R stepper motor.

Referring to the driver chip datasheet, we have configured the motor with the following settings and an input step signal of 200 pulses/sec:

  • ISGAIN: 10
  • DTIME: 850 ns
  • TORQUE: 100
  • TOFF: 30 µs
  • TBLANK: 0x80
  • DECMOD: Auto mixed decay (always enabled)
  • OCPTH: 500 mV
  • OCPDEG: 2 µs
  • TDRIVEN: 2 µs
  • TDRIVEP: 2 µs
  • IDRIVEN: 100 mA
  • IDRIVEP: 50 mA

We observe that the motor rotates; however, there is an abnormal vibration during operation.

Additionally, we are trying to locate the BOOST-DRV8711 GUI application and its example source code for reference, but we have been unable to find them. Kindly guide us in resolving these issues.

Thanks & Regards,
Sugadev S

  • Hi Sugadev,

    Thanks for your post.

The BOOST-DRV8711 GUI application and its example source code can be downloaded from its webpage, https://www.ti.com/tool/BOOST-DRV8711. See below snippet.

The BOOST-DRV8711 uses RIsense value of 0.05 Ω. This would set the IFS current to 5.5 A. The 57HS112-4204 stepper is specified for 4.2 A IFS. The IFS can be reduced to close to ~ 4 A by changing TORQUE register value from 255 to 190.

Referring to the driver chip datasheet, we have configured the motor with the following settings and an input step signal of 200 pulses/sec:

What is the CTRL MODE setting used? The default is 1/4 step. Could you please share the current waveform using a current probe and oscilloscope either coil A or B? What is the VM voltage used?

    Regards, Murugavel
