DRV8412 for trapezoidal commutation of BLDC control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8312, DRV8412, DRV8301

Hi TI experts,

is it possible to measure back-emf at the phase, where just no current flows?

I saw the control in DRV8312, there /RESET and PWM can be set to low, make the phase up and down off.

In DRV8412 /RESET is not for single phase, but for A and B. So it is not possible here to make only one phase totally off.

That means a trapezoidal commutation, with based on back-emf, is not possible to be realized with DRV8412.

I know, for this kinda application DRV8312/DRV8301 is a good choice.

best regards,

Long

  • Long,

You are absolutely correct.  The DRV8412 can be used for current based FOC control.  For traditional trapezoidal, you will need the DRV8312 to independently HIZ the phase where you measure BEMF.

  • Ryan,

Thanks again. But if we can seperate the /RESET, we can use DRV8412 for more applications ;)

Now I have done a lot with DRV8412-KIT and DRV8312-KIT. I have also done some tests with DRV8301-KIT.

The KITs and the TI experts (Ryan, LT, ...) helped me to have a better understanding in motor control. Thanks!
