DRV8145-Q1: Confirm about how OLP is handled

Part Number: DRV8145-Q1

Tool/software:

Hello, Experts,

We have question about OLP of DRV8145-Q1:

  • Our customer thinks that they cannot distinguish between the short of internal SW (circled in red) vs internal FET. Is this correct understanding?
  • IF yes, is there a way to distinguish between them?
    • We thought the description in the datasheet would be helpful (p37):
"• The user is expected to toggle through all the combinations and record the comparator output after its output is settled. "
"• Based on the input combinations and comparator output, the user can determine if there is a fault on the output."

Best,
Masaru

  • Hi Masaru,

cannot distinguish between the short of internal SW (circled in red) vs internal FET. Is this correct understanding?

This is correct. These switches are used to pull up or down the OUT node for the OLP diagnostic. If the voltage on the OUT node does not get pulled up or down correctly this indicates a short or open on the OUT node.

If one of these switches were to remain closed or open when they should not be, this would still report as a fault on the OUT pin.

IF yes, is there a way to distinguish between them?

Could I know why the customer would like to be able to distinguish between the FET or switch being shorted?

    Regards,

    Joshua

  • Hello, Joshua,

We shared the GUI you sent us to our customer and waiting for their feedback. We will post another thread when we get their feedback.

    Best,
    Masaru

  • Hi Masaru,

Sounds good! If the customer has any feedback with the GUI in terms of bugs or general recommendations, please let me know, we are updating the GUI at this moment so all any feedback is appreciated.

    Regards,

    Joshua
