DRV8316C-Q1: DRV8316CT vs DRV8316CR

Part Number: DRV8316C-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Are there any differences for these chipsets in quiescent current draw? Are there any distinct advantages from one config type (HW / SW) vs. the other?

  • Hi Alex,

There aren't any differences between the variants of this device when it comes to the specs such as sleep mode current, peak current, and abs max voltage. When there are differences they would be noted in the datasheet like this:

and usually related to the features.

In general SPI is going to be easier to configure settings and debug faults. SPI typically has more settings that can be configured as well while on the hardware variant it would be fixed. One of the draw backs is you would need an MCU and firmware to communicate with the DRV

Hardware variants are much more simple to configure settings since they use external resistors, the draw back would be it would be more difficult to change these settings since you would have to physically change a resistor on your board and this increases your BOM. Debugging faults also becomes a little difficult with this variant since you don't have the registers telling you exactly what the fault is.

More difference between these variants can be found in the datasheet, I'd recommend looking through the specs and features as this is where the majority of the differences will be

    Regards,

    Yara
